Time to Reflect is part  of a series of paintings I am currently working on that investigate the nature of glass. Although representational, this cut crystal bowl creates many abstract passages caused by the natural transparency, reflections and distortions in glass. Light plays a major role in my paintings and especially in this one as the light passes through the cut crystal bowl sending shards of light in all directions. It was so much fun to paint!

Opulence - Step by Step

I'm back! It seems like forever since I posted and talked to everyone. I was sick with a cold, then went out of town to visit my parents, and then my daughter came into town to visit us. It's been great spending the time with family and having so many laughs!

I think I'm finished this painting, but I'll need to live with it for a few weeks to really know. Because of the time lapse since I started posting the Step by Step, I decided to post them all together so you get the effect. There's a bit of glare in the upper right hand corner, probably because I used some glazing fluid and it has a bit of sheen. Once I've decided that it's finished, I'll varnish it so the finish is consistent.

Now has this ever happened to you? When I went to make this blog post, my image upload window wouldn't let me upload any pictures. I am a bit technologically challenged so things have to be pretty basic for me. I've been checking my 'cache' and my 'cookies' and updating Firefox and finally googling how to revert to the 'old editor' on my blog. Phew!

I love Granny Smith apples and laid out on this cloth, they reminded me of Valentines which just happens to be coming up in a few hours, so I called it Love Tarts. This is a demo piece I did at the LOOK Victoria Art Show and Sale yesterday afternoon. It was absolutely pouring with rain in Victoria yesterday, so the shopping mall was hopping, and so many people came through to view the art, talk to the artists demonstrating, and buy something new for their walls!

I seem to be concentrating really hard. It's probably more like camera shy! I had a hard time finding a way to set up my still life, because the few plugs in the gallery were situated in difficult traffic areas. So consequently my set up was low to the floor and far away. Very few people noticed my set up and thought I was just painting from my head. Then they were impressed when they realized I was painting from life. (I think it would have been more impressive if I was painting a still life from my head!)

This piece was inspired by various travels. The platter is Moroccan and the fabric is an Egyptian prayer rug. I love both of these home decor items. All they needed were some green apples. This painting is one of the pieces on display at the Victoria Airport.
