Time to Reflect is part  of a series of paintings I am currently working on that investigate the nature of glass. Although representational, this cut crystal bowl creates many abstract passages caused by the natural transparency, reflections and distortions in glass. Light plays a major role in my paintings and especially in this one as the light passes through the cut crystal bowl sending shards of light in all directions. It was so much fun to paint!

Pomegranite

Pomegranate  6 x 6  Oil on Linen

I just love the rich reds of pomegranates. They are such a paintable fruit. I'm not sure I like the background, I'm thinking of darkening it. What do you think? Would a darker background improve this little painting?  I'm currently working on some small pieces for the upcoming Small Works Shows, of which there are many around the Christmas season. This is the first of them. 

BTW I've forgotten to tell you that I entered the Daily Paintworks Challenge for the Children of Africa a while back. I'm really pleased to say that my painting sold, and I will be making the donation to the Canadian Red Cross in the next few days.

I haven't done a still life from real life in a few weeks because I've been working on my Beach House series and some landscape pieces. I find painting still life to be a totally different feel from landscapes. It feels quite intense, focusing on the light and form of the objects and trying to see each variation in colour and temperature. It's fun but hard! The photo is a bit darker than the painting because I had to photograph after work and the light wasn't optimal. I tried to lighten it but it became too contrasty. But I think you get the idea.
