Acrylic on Canvas 24 x 36 SOLD
This is another scene from Hornby Island, but not from this past summer. This scene was painted from a photograph during a summer vacation full of rain. It had been raining all week, and finally it started to slow and I decided to go down to Ford Cove and visit the Art Gallery there. As I drove into the cove, the black clouds broke and the sun burst through. The contrast in the light was almost like a photo negative. Amazing! I'm tempted to try this one again in oils.
Your painting is gorgeous, those clouds are sooooo dramatic and your water is perfectly rendered. Beautiful painting, I see why it's sold:)
ReplyDeleteVotre ciel tourmenté laissant jaillir la lumière est remarquable et loin d'être travaillé dans la simplicité. Le ponton qui avance dans l'eau s'harmonise bien dans la composition et crée une grande profondeur à votre toile.
ReplyDeleteBisous
et mille mercis pour vos gentilles paroles...
Wonderful work, Claire. Your clouds are a thing of beauty and have a great glow. The water is perfect...you are one very talented lady!
ReplyDeleteHi Claire, thanks for your comment on my blog. I enjoyed touring your site, also. Gessobord is a masonite that is gessoed and finished to smoother, slicker surface. It comes in 3 thicknesses, 1/4"(flat) and 2 other cradled depths. You can see what it looks like by going to any of the online art stores. The makers are Ampersand, they do other painting surfaces, so you should not have a problem finding a sample. Actually, just do a google search and I am sure it will come up. I love the painting feel from it, but I go back and forth between surfaces. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting . . . breath-taking sky and the painting has incredible depth!
ReplyDeleteThe light in those clouds is wonderful! Great painting!
ReplyDeleteOh Claire!! This is an amazing painting that looks like a photo. Love the clouds and the sun rays and the reflections in the water!! Congratulations on selling this piece! I can understand why....beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! I really appreciate these wonderful comments! This painting was done a while back but I just recently realized that I hadn't posted it. It was selected for the Vancouver Island Art Calendar 2009, and all of the proceeds went to the Shelter Box program. The Shelter Box program is run through the Rotary Club and supports victims of natural disasters or those displaced by war, with their basic needs to survive up to one year. They get a 10 person tent with mosquito netting, a water filter system, a small stove that works with any kind of fuel, even paraffin wax, tools, cooking utensils, school supplies, and much more. I was very proud to be a part of such a wonderful program, and I managed to sell enough calendars to buy a complete shelter box on my own! So this has special significance for me.
