Naptime

Original Oil on Linen 11 x 14 $275

It feels like quite a while since I posted. I've been preparing submissions for a variety of shows and events running through the summer, and am still preparing for the Oak Bay Artists' Studio Tour coming up on April 16th and 17th. It's been a very busy time, but I managed to get back to the easel and paint these cute little boats. The Gulf Islands are full of images like this, so I've photographed many boats turned upside down. They always look to me like they've come up on land to take a nap.

  1. Oh Claire, I need you to teach me how to blend those beautiful foliage backdrops that you create! I just love the play of colors throughout this painting. It has such a nostalgic, calming feel to it.

  2. It does look like they are taking naps! Beautiful shades of green--very lush. I really like the bright yellow greens on the path.

  3. J'aime cette peinture ma chère Claire, tout est paisible... On pourrait entendre voler une mouche. Après l'effort, le réconfort...
Toutes vos couleurs jouent avec beaucoup de sérénité et en font une toile sublime.
    Bisous

  5. So glad to see you back!! Wonderful painting--love the variety in the greens and dappled light! I really like the boats in your really great expanse of space. It reminds me of being at the lake when we were kids. I can almost smell the forest.

  9. Hi Claire,

Thanks for your thoughtful comment on my blog . . . your suggestions are helpful. If I painted like you, (especially your "Above the Courtyard") I wouldn't be concerned with literalness at all. I love your detailed refined paintings! When I'm literal, the result is usually deadness. You don't have that failing . . .
