Tomorrow and Sunday are the art submission days for LOOK Victoria 2011 Art Show and Sale presented by the Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria.  And these are my submissions for the show. If you live in Victoria the show is located at the Bay Center downtown, on the lower level. The art drop off is 11-4pm both days.  This is a visual art show of 2D and 3D work, and it will be running for an entire month. I'll be volunteering tomorrow for the drop off, so if you come by with your art, be sure to say hi! It's going to be a great show again this year, so I'll have more to post about it in the upcoming days.

In the Garden

I'm pleased to announce that I have been juried into the Butchart Gardens Summer Art Show and Sale. The Butchart Gardens is our premiere Victoria attraction with 50 acres of the most spectacular floral finery and landscaping. It's a fabulous experience in all seasons. The above painting 'In the Garden' was a perfect fit for this show. When I first had the concept for this painting, I wanted to capture the pleasure of breakfast in the garden on a summer's day. When I actually set up the still life to photograph, it quickly became about light and shadow. I loved the shadows cast across the tea cup and table and onto the garden chair. I wanted to capture the bright summer sun, but give the impression of the freshness in the garden with the cool blue and white colour scheme. I'm really pleased with the result.

As you can see, Canadian has a bit of glare on it that I can't seem to get rid of in the photo, but it gives you the idea. I'm on so many learning curves at the moment - painting, computer skills, photographing....it's very challenging and sometimes I just have to settle for my best try. :-)

Here is side two. I've had great feedback on these two little studies so I'm going to further investigate this theme. I'm going to try to post the two sides together, so you can see it as a whole, but I'm still being photographically challenged, so if it doesn't work for tonight, I'll post when I can get a good representation.
